Politics: Councils told to act reasonably in passing on cuts to voluntary groups Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has announced that he expects local authorities to behave reasonably in their dealings with voluntary and community groups ie by not passing on disproportionate cuts, consulting early about service changes and giving at least 3 months notice of ending or altering grants. The Minister defined disproportionate cuts as bigger reductions than councils take on themselves and said he would use statutory force if councils don't comply. The proposals also said councils should reconsider any disproportionate cuts already made. www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/networking-discussions/blogs/20591/11/03/01/eric-pickles-mp-secretary-state-communities-local-govern.
