:) People who get Income Support, or Job Seekers Allowance, get full Housing Benefit - less any non-dependent deductions which apply. : If you rent from a close relative, you cannot usually get Housing Benefit. Get Advice : 16/17 year olds can normally claim, unless they have been in care, when the Local Authority is usually reponsible for paying for their accommodation : If you live as a group of single people, e.g. a Lesbian or gay couple, or a group of friends sharing a house, each of you can claim Housing Benefit on your share of the rent if you all meet all the conditions for claiming. : If you move house you can get Housing Benefit on both your old and new home for up to four weeks before you move in, in certain circumstances. Get advice. : If you are away from home you can continue to get Housing Benefit for up to 13 weeks : Some people can continue to get Housing Benefit for up to 52 weeks, e.g. Hospital in patients. : It is possible to get HB for some sevice charges - e.g. general management facilitees, cleaning of communal areas : If a non-dependent lives with you - this is almost anyone who is not your partner or child whom you recieve child benefit, or joint tenant, or landlord your housing benefit may be reduced on a sliding scale depending on how much thy earn : Your HB may be restricted if your home is too expensive or too large for you :
??? ??? Basic Rules for working out Entitlement.
Capital over £16000, No Claim : Capital between £3000 and £16000 is calculated towards your income at £1 per every £250 over £3000. e.g. £4000 will generate £4 Tarrif Income.
:) Work out you personal Allowance and Premiums you are entitled to. This is your applicable Amount. See Income Support calculations.
:) Now work out your income. This is all benefits apart fom DLA, Social Fund Payments, Council Tax Benefit, HB, War Pensions, Income support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Fostering Allowances for official fostering, most Charitable payments.
Net weekly earnings less the following disregards : £25 for lone parents : £20 for disabled people : £10 for couples : £5 for single people.
These disregards are increased by £14.50 if you are working over 30 hours and Getting Working Tax Credit, over 25 and working 30 hours+, have children and work 16+ hours are disabled and work 30+ hours, are over 50 and entitled to Working Tax Credit. :
Up to £175 for one child or up to £300 a week for more than one child is ignored :
Maintenence is included as income less £15 for single parents or couples with children.
Plus Tarrif Income from savings.
:) Take Your Applicable amount away from your income amount.
If the sum is minus or nil HB will be in full.
If not they calculate 65% of the sum.
Take this amount away from the weekly rent figure and deduct any non-dependent deductions. This figure is the amount of Housing Benefit payable.

( How to Work out non- dependent deductions : Earning £322+ = £47.75 : £258 - £321.99 = £43.50 : £194-£257.99 = £38.20 : £150-£193.99 = £23.35 : £101-£149.99 = £17 : 18 or older, and in part time work (income less than £101.00) = £7.40 : 25 or over and getting Income Support or Income Based Job seekers = £7.40.)
